Restaurant Insurance New Orleans – Story Recap

So far in parts 1 through 9 of our current series we have followed a man named Pete Ross go through a number of different challenges with his restaurant, Squeaky Pete’s Pork Emporium.

If you have been following along with our series you know Pete received a loan from his parents to start up his restaurant and since then has gone through a number of different insurance claims.

So far Pete has lost an entire freezer full of food stock, been sued by an injured customer, dealt with an employee being badly burned, and most recently a grease fire!

Pete’s insurance agent Tracy informs him that any damage to the structure of the building done, as well as any items that are not a part of the building, will be covered under his Building Property Coverage and his Business Personal Property coverage, respectively.

While that news is a relief to Pete, Tracy is becoming worried that he has had to file too many claims.

Find out in part 10 whether or not Pete’s insurance cancels his policy.

New Orleans Business Insurance for Restaurants – Coverage Scenario Part 10

Ron Jordan is a claims adjuster with Scrand & Dalf Insurance, the insurance company with whom Pete Ross has a Restaurant Insurance policy. Ron has been assigned to assess the damage done to Squeaky Pete’s Pork Emporium due to the recent grease fire.

After pulling up to the restaurant, Ron exits his car and grabs his company-provided iPad to take pictures of the damage and write up his damage assessment report.

Much of the equipment in, on, and around the stove area is damaged beyond repair. The ceiling and walls will need to be replaced and much of the interior will need to be painted to cover the Smoke Damage Remediation

Ron’s inspection results in the following assessment: the damage will amount to an estimated $57,218.

Back at the office, Ron finalizes his electronic report and sends it to his supervisor for final approval. He also copies the underwriting department, notifying them of the loss.

The insurance company’s internal claims software flags Pete Ross’ insurance policy for manual underwriter review after a claim report was transmitted to the underwriting department.

Insurance companies are like any for-profit business: if an account is costing the company too much money it is subject to review and/or cancellation.

Squeaky Pete’s Pork Emporium restaurant has produced a number of claims in a relatively short period of time. The insurance industry refers to such an event as Frequency of Claims

Companies also look at Frequency of Claims another way: Pete Ross has turned into a claims machine

What happens when a policyholder such as Pete has too many claims? We will discuss that in our next post.
